Emily Belongia

LPC-IT | Licensed Professional Counselor

Hi, my name is Emily and my pronouns are she, her, and hers. I am passionate about helping individuals gain awareness and become more empowered and authentic within their identities. A therapeutic relationship with me is collaborative and respectful in nature. I offer care, support, and empathy for each individual I work with. I believe that being able to have genuine, at moment, feedback opportunities enhance the healing process. The theories I use in counseling sessions celebrate individuality and acknowledge the struggles surrounding our various identities. I firmly believe that the client is the expert in their own life. Through heightened awareness, the client will begin self-healing with my supportive therapeutic guidance.

I have experience in working with the LGBTQIA+ community, and as a queer therapist, I bring an extra layer of understanding into counseling sessions. I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental environment that will support sexual and gender identity exploration, discovery, and identification. I work with individuals that are going through their identity exploration, battling the oppressive systems within society, and trying to find a way to exist in the world. This would include LGBTQIA+ individuals who are not specifically coming to therapy for identity-related problems. My work affirms diversity and fights for equality. I am anti-racist, sex and kink-positive, and poly-affirming.

In addition to working with the LGBTQIA+ community, I am most experienced with individuals dealing with various life stressors including anxiety, depression, relationship problems, low self-esteem, body image concerns, adjustment stressors, trauma, and other impacts of oppression. I utilize a social justice and trauma-informed lens in my practice. I look forward to collaborating with you on your journey to authenticity and empowerment.
