Risa Janowski

LPC | Licensed Professional Counselor

Hi, I’m Risa Janowski and I am a psychotherapist who enjoys working with people of all ages, however children and teens are my specialty. I love what I do and seeing the progress made by those I have worked with is so awesome to me! My compassion and caring personality is what lead me to this field but I have also learned that encouraging a client to really look inside can be extremely valuable.”

Risa’s educational background includes a bachelor’s of arts degree in psychology from Ripon College and a master’s of science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from University of Wisconsin Madison. In 2001, she earned her LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) through the state of Wisconsin. During her journey as a therapist she has attended many training sessions and has gathered great tools to help her clients be the most successful they can be in life.

Before joining Sherman Counseling, she was a full time trauma therapist for Family Services of Northeast WI and became a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and a Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional. In addition, she owned a mental health clinic in the Green Bay Area for 8 years and was a therapist at other mental health clinics in the area. She has been in the field of therapy and in the Green Bay area for over 20 years and is well versed on the community’s resources.

At Sherman, she will provide individual, family, and couples/marriage therapy, using a therapeutic, person-centered approach based on an individual’s needs. She has learned that one single approach is not right for everyone so she has been trained in various modalities such as play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy. I have extensive experience working with kids and adolescents who struggle with various issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, family problems, and trauma. Co-parenting is another area of expertise that I have knowledge and experience in. She offers an excellent 10 hour CoParenting seminar that can take the place of court required parenting classes. Risa believes every person is unique and comes with positive qualities. As a therapist, she sees it as her job to help each and every one reach the best version of themselves.

Risa lives in the Howard area with her husband and two teen boys as well as 3 fur babies. Family time is extremely important to Risa. She and her family love to travel, fish, boat and enjoy the beauty of nature. Her kids are very active in sports and activities and she is their number 1 fan!
